Animals in the Tree

I created this watercolor drawing in 2017 as part of a set of four drawings welcoming the new baby girl coming to the family – my cousin’s daughter. In this whimsical scene, the animals in the forest are abuzz with excitement, sharing the news: ‘Did you know? A baby is coming!’ Even the Elephant, who was taking a nap, got caught up in the joyous news. We were all thrilled about Luiza’s arrival!

Later on, when I acquired my iPad, I felt a desire to reimagine this drawing in a digital medium. Admittedly, I didn’t complete it (hahah), but the process of creating this alternative version using a digital gouache brush set and digital paper was so fun.

The second atempt (digital illustration).

Each medium possesses its unique charm, and the key is to remain open to different possibilities and results. While I love watercolors, these days, I find myself liking very much digital tools for their forgiving nature and ability to speed up my workflow, all while retaining the heart and fun of the artistic process.

I wanted to share a bit about this piece because I have just received a message from a woman expecting a little girl. She expressed her desire to decorate her baby’s room with two of my paintings. It’s lovely… someone wanting a piece of my work to contribute to this special space that means so much to her. I feel grateful to be an artist able to connect with these positive emotions. Thank you
