Drawing Characters

Every time I embark on a new project and need to create a new character, I study various poses from pictures. I observe details and colors, continually sketching until my brain says, ‘Oh, okay, I see what you’re doing here.’ After that, I close the page and return to it later.

Once I feel that my brain has absorbed enough ‘food,’ I embark on another round, this time without reference pictures. Now it’s time to recall what stood out as essential details. Suddenly, the character starts to develop its own personality.

This is primarily a drawing process, not a writing one, to bring a character to life. Once that’s complete, I can start crafting stories, but initially, it’s all about the character trying to communicate with me through images.

In the second image, the Red Panda comes to life, and the drawings that resonate the most will shape him. On this page, I particularly liked the one where he is enjoying ramen noodles. It seems to be his favorite dish so far!

Through these little scenes, the characters emerge and reveal themselves.
