Pãozinho
This big dog is a dear friend of mine. Despite the physical distance between us (he lives with my grandmother), our friendship is always on my mind. Meet Pãozinho, or in a loose translation, ‘Little Bread.’ I can’t recall exactly why he got this name, but as a puppy, he was incredibly cute and small, resembling a loaf just out of the oven.
Initially, he had a brownish hue as a little puppy, but as he grew, his fur transitioned to a warm ochre color—common among Brazilian mutt dogs. His paws extended significantly over time. He is a “tall” dog. I taking photos of us together, him comfortably seated on my lap. However, as time passed, capturing those ‘family pictures’ became a bit challenging.
Puppy Pãozinho wasn’t the fastest, smartest, or fiercest among his siblings. He was a tad slow, often the last to join in playtime, but his enthusiasm peaked when food was involved. Because of this I perceived him as super calm and cute. The first time I held him in my arms his immediate response was… a deep sleep. Haha.
From that moment on, we became the best of friends. We played together, I chatted with him, and I guided him around the house. Oh, we trusted a lot each other!
This year, Pãozinho will celebrate his 12th birthday. He’s now a senior dog, not as agile as before, preferring the tranquility of observing things from a distance. His once-brown fur has now turned half-white; for sure, time flies.
In my drawings, Pãozinho is Pina’s always good friend, portrayed as a giant dog. I’m not quite sure why he grew so much in this fiction, but the bright side is that he can run freely in the hills and even carry Pina on his back.
